Musical Cure
Once again a post about my health issues.
(but I'm giving you a great song to listen to and watch while I whine) :-)
I am a new-ish chronic pain patient- people who have read my posts have been hearing of my issues for a bit less than 2 years now.
I am working on getting my 4th and 5th opinion- today at the new Neurologist, then in 2 weeks at a Dr who is known as a "fabulous diagnostician."
Everyone says the same thing- I am now a "chronic pain patient"- my pain is due to severe nerve damage due to years of compression from bulging discs and compressed vertebrae. It is Nerve pain- not muscle, (which I have been saying all this time) and that really there isn't much they can do other than burn off the nerve roots every year or so and manage my pain with meds, exercise and good nutrition.
I'm the perfect model of a medical marijuana patient as well- It is a badge I have no shame about- and I am open about my status with anyone who counts. I have to use whatever works- and MM is one of the only things I've found that helps me find some comfort- Without killing my stomach. I never smoke before driving or being with my son or his friends. Responsible is really my middle name.
Yes, I know what kind of pain I have. I know my talking about my pain in the neck can be a real pain in the neck. I'm sorry, I just can't help complaining- especially when the pain gets this bad. Like today, where I haven't slept a full night in 5 days.
I try to keep it positive by scheduling things that I will look forward to, like concerts!
Last night I at least had a respite from the agony, and went to a fantastic concert by the Shins, one of my favorite "go to" bands. Here is a video of them performing "Know your Onion" at the concert last night. (link is here too: Shins Concert- "Know your Onion")
A special shout out also to my date for the night, Eric Fest- my BFF's hubby who also happens to be a friend of mine too. Eric is a big alt music fan too and is filling in the gap that is left by my hubby Guido's refusal to come to any concerts with me. In Guido's defense, he has a hearing condition that makes going to concerts with electrified instruments particularly painful.
Hey, I KNOW about pain. I get it- you do what you have to do to relieve yourself of the pain- including leaving concerts. (I know now not to spend the money on a ticket for him- I get it for a friend instead!
So I'll just keep on looking at coming attractions- I know that the Rialto theater in Tucson is scheduling some great concerts- Tegan and Sarah are coming in a few months, as is Sleigh Bells and Aimee Mann. (I think I'll go to T and S)
I promise to not bore you too much about my nerve pain- or, at least when I complain I'll also post a pretty picture or video to balance out the whine :-\
thanks for all of your support!
ciao- Maureen

home
Annie was transported back to Tucson last night by medical transport-
She was put in a Neuro unit at one of our Tucson hospitals- They plan on moving her to
the rehabilitation hospital in 2 days, once she has rested from the trip and they are happy with her
stabilization and vitals.
I got to hear her voice on the phone when she called me this morning- she sounded tired, but
was as spunky and humorous as ever. She wanted me to bring Cosmo by to see her tonight, so I drove there after picking him up from school-
Unfortunately there is a ban on children under 13 in all hospitals in AZ until March , due to H1N1...so I called up to the room and had Wizard come down and stay with him while I went to see princess blue eyes.
She had me take this picture of her to show Cosmo that she is on her feet again (incredible, isn't it? she broke her neck in 2 places!) and we think that she resembles a Pokemon...not sure which one, but I'm sure that will be sorted out soon.
It will be many weeks until she is released from the hospital, she has a long recovery ahead of her.
I'm so thankful to all of you for your prayers and wishes-
we can count ourselves lucky to have this bright star still with us
I'll keep posting Annie's progress- and I will send your good wishes her way.
ciao- Maureen

ahh, love. I must say that my Haystack experience was the most intensely amazing lovefest in the studio that I have ever experienced.
I am left with a feeling of fortune, to have been included in the wonderful group of students that attended the session with me. Every one had contributions to bring to the table- each personality complimented another, in a way that only magic could explain.

Happy to be layed off...because...
Howdy-Ciao! from my studio..here in sunny TucsonLike many of you, I am a metalsmith who juggles multiple jobs in my field.
Last year was CRAZY for me:
I held 2 paid jobs, a board position in a local craft organization and I had 4 galleries to keep happy and stock.
On top of all this, I keep my son's needs at the forefront, so homework help, library, chess club, soccer, swimming, playdates....pokemon...have to fit in as well. Being married is also something to work at, right? :-) So let's not forget spending quality time with Hubbster!
Oh yes, and those pesky (wonderful) friends- ('Cause you gotta have friends, right?), I'm afraid those important relationships get neglected under the carpet of everything else. (sorry...still love you, mean it)
Then there is THIS YEAR...(that is the 2008-09 school year).....
No teaching position (because Hubby travels too much this year and babysitting fees cancel out teaching earnings..)
Gallery sales in the gutter...temporarily layed off from my goldsmith position....
and the craft board? well, let's just say I find it irrelevant now.
Thankfully my friends, husband and son stuck around... :-) whew!
HERE'S the Thing.....I am as busy as before- and Happy as a Clam.
I am so happy to have this time available- because now I can..
- work in the studio on new designs
- hone my business skills
- make new contacts
- search for new opportunities
- Garden
- re-model the bathroom
- go for a walk in the park
- get appointments out of the way
- play with my son when he gets home from school
- volunteer at school
- be spontaneous!
The number one thing I try to remember through all of this change is that turmoil is temporary, and a great way to stir up the soup to look for more carrots!
Today I am
- learning about how to make treasuries on Etsy.
- taking images of my new less expensive pieces of jewelry
- Posting on my etsy shop http://cosmosmoon.etsy.com
- having lunch with a friend
- shopping for a halloween costume with my son
- discussing the differences of Italian/USA politics with my husband, Guido
- being thankful for having time to do all I want
What are you doing today?
